Australia hit by state based cyber attack: Is attacker from FVEY or someone from outside?

Australia under 'cyber-attack' by 'sophisticated state-actor ...

On 19th June 2020, the Prime Minister of Australia stated in a press talk that his country has been targeted by a 'sophisticated state-based cyber actor'. Even after the assurance of PM Scott Morrison that no large scale personal data breaches were revealed, the unrest among Australia's general public and cyber industrialists and IT manufacturers sustained
, since they were reported as the main target. Even-though the government organisations were also not spared.

As per expectations, the Australian authorities quickly engaged with their closest intelligence allies, the FVEY (Five Eye).

FVEY is an intelligence coalition formed by Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom and United States. This alliance mainly focuses on sharing and collaboration on signal intelligence but normally all the major intelligence institutes of all five member countries maintain information sharing channels.

Australian journalist Sabra Lane in a tweet, reported that PM Scott said that he talked directly with the British PM Boris, one of FVEY allies, and all other members too.

The Australian Prime Minister not mentioned at all about who was behind the attack. But a list of countries can easily be concluded regarded who targeted Australia by considering the history of such actions of active countries in this regard. The most probable list is as follow:-

United Kingdom:-

There is no debate about that the UK's security apparatus housed inside SIS Building have reduced its malicious activities against other countries quite a lot. But UK is still in the probable list because according to Sabra Lane, PM Scott talked directly with the UK's PM. It means that most probably he must have tried to contact directly to other head of states of FVEY alliance on this matter but they didn't considered it of that worth and declined request and directed sub-ordinates to communicate. In contrast, UK's PM responded directly which put England in suspicion list as it can be an intentional prompt act to cover up the matter.

Russia:-

It is quite probable and logically possible that this cyber attack on Australia has been launched by Russian Intelligence, for being an unconditional ally of its international opponent United States.

United States:-

United States has actually no friends for two reasons: Firstly because of his own egocentric nature, and secondly because of having such a strict observer, Israel. There is zero probability about the chances that US will never think of targeting one of its closest and unconditional allies when he needs so in any case. Besides this, the most number of cases reported about the phone calls, emails and text messages of citizens of any country, directly point towards US.

If benefit of doubt is granted to UK, the remaining two probable attackers remain US and Russia. No doubt that most actions and policies of US are in line with the interests of Israel but in the current scenario there is nothing visible about which MOSSAD may have pushed their friends at Langley or NSA. So most probably it is an independent action of United States, if so.

Blame of malicious cyber activity on Russia is not a new one. Cyber interference in US's Presidential Elections is the most recent accusation for Russia. But still their are now solid reports about Russia being involved in US like malicious cyber activities.

Since their is no rigid supporting information but all this statement is still built upon logically true assumptions, so any conclusion cannot be made with out adding the clause 'most probably'.

So most probably, it was one of Australia's own FVEY ally, The United States of America, who inflicted a damaging cyber attack upon it.
